Kings Park in Refugio (Map item 34) just across from the court house (Map item 11) shares the same block as does the county library (Map item 15) and is dedicated to all the veterans from Refugio County. The parks name sake is Colonel Amon King. In 1836 a badly outnumbered Texan force commanded by Amon King and William Ward were defeated by Mexican General Urrera at the 1836 battle of Refugio. Most of Ward's men escaped; however, many of King's contingent were either killed of captured. Those captured were later executed in the infamous Goliad Massacre.
The park features a gazebo and a 25' tall bronze sculpture of a mythical Greek hero. The inscription on the monument reads, "Erected by the state of Texas in memory of Amon B. King and other Texas Soldiers killed in action or captured and afterwards slain as a result of the fighting at Refugio, Mar 14, 15, 16, 1836."
Electrical outlets ring the East and North sides of the park so as to accommodate booths set up for special occasions.

Heritage Park's (Map item 33) pyrimidal monument is is decorated with seals from the Army, Navy, Airforce, Coast Guard, and Marines. It is surrounded by stone beaches dedicated to the veterans of the conflicts in Iraqi, Afgansitan, Korea, View Nam, WWI, WWII, and the Persian Gulf.
